On "linux", most people prefer to use the installer provided by their
distribution (the package/port manager).  As a result, any installer
that tries to circumvent this will be considered amateurish by many of
its users (even if it is made by a large, well-known company!).  So,
don't go that way...   ;-)

That doesn't mean package maintainers couldn't use/share part of your
code/logic though.
