There's an apt repository for it already. It downloads the compiler from 
the DMD site and installs it for you:

deb http://d.xk.pl/debian/ unstable contrib

Updates within a few days of each release, and can install dmd 1 or 2 for 
you. Works for any linux distro with apt, really.
