Magpie designer (Bob Nystrom) is a quite smart person :-) Here he
explains two main kinds of iterations:

I think Magpie is not meant to become a widespread language, but
it contains interesting ideas.
I think the core of Magpie is interpreted, but you can run the
type system statically, if you want.
