"(" and ")" cause problems in ddoc comments

Stray, unnested parentheses can cause odd effects in ddoc comments. This 
can be fixed by using ( and ) but this is a bit clunky. What 
would be nice would be to have a special character sequence to handle 
them, something like &lp; and &rp;
