Actually I found this https://github.com/atilaneves/ac-dcd
which also worked and .. it seems company-dcd might be based on it

Anyway I updated he wiki page for editors to clarify that you 
need more than the just the base emacs mode to have auto 
completion https://wiki.dlang.org/Editors
