How about "%r" in 'format'?

Then for arrays, "%(%s, %)" would in fact be "%(%r, %)" while 
"%-(%s, %)" would in fact be "%(%s, %)" - breaking existing code; 
punishable by 'xxformat' for at least one year :-)
