Some people worked on it but I guess they lost interest.

I think the problem was that SWIG was too hard to use. It could work, but too
much effort was required that it wasn't really worth it. The payoff wasn't
enough compared to the initial investment. But I didn't spend much time with
SWIG (and I never really knew what I was doing), so there may be other reasons
why SWIG never really got used.

soon as it started:
