A problem is, that your article refers to "existing terminology 
confusion"---then contributing more of the same should be avoided. 

Instead of trying to bulldoze a rough terrain it might be better to 
leave for a green meadow: `firm' might be a good keyword for the 
concept of something that cannot be modified to the core and `conch' 
seems suitable for the concept of a hard cover protecting a soft core.
