Why will the delete keyword be removed?

Such answers only leave more questions open, and won't get you much street  
cred :) May I suggest writing an article (or just an NG post - something  
you can link to for all such future questions) detailing why delete was  
bad, why getting rid of it was good, and if you actually used delete, what  
should you now use instead of it, for all use cases?
