Yes, that's overkill, and it's not a good solution. But sometimes it's useful to discuss even bad solutions to problems, because they may lead to different and more acceptable solutions. During brainstorming you need to lower the censoring threshold, to increase creativity (it's the second rule: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brainstorming#Ground_Rules ).
