Agreed. Actually, AFAIK, pdf was born as a paper-printing format (ps legacy, in 
fact). That's why it systematically has white background.

(Thank godS, Unbuntu's doc viewer recently got an "inverse video" mode. Unthank 
gods, white on black is far to be the most legible color combination. Anyway, 
better than the opposite...)
