Is the D community lacking development tools?

+1. For me, vim + dmd/gdc is Good Enough(tm). Other tools are nice to
have, but not a must.

Having said that, though, having the reference compiler as a D-callable
library would be a big plus (for building pretty printers, code
analyzers, etc.).
