Your interpretation of my interpretation is exactly right. (However, 
note that I am not using this reasoning to say the new semantics are 
wrong, I am saying the new semantics are not obviously what was intended 
from the beginning once given the definition of 'assert' in English. 
This is what this discussion is about.)
