+1. Anywhere you're using OpenGL, you can use it for both the 2D 
and 3D renderers. That will also allow a lot of shared code 
between the two. The same holds for D3D, actually. It would be 
convenient to wrap D2D for the 2D renderer, but you'll cut down 
on the amount of code by using D3D for both.
