Looks like was down to my server set-up.  I had been using gdc w/
2.065 on my own machine, but gdc w/ 2.064 on the server.

Rebuilt on 2.065 and all is functional now.  Site is now able to
rebuild pages in the background on the fly, no recompilation/restart
necessary. :o)
