This was my experience with GTK2 and GTK3 too. They just look the 
same everywhere. Though given the underhanded state of GUI on 
linux what's ugly elsewhere is presumably ok for linux. Though 
there is probably evidence that GTK can be tuned for better look 
and feel (it provides quite some options), but it looks like it's 
not always done.
Qt applications are identifiable too :) but they are more or less 
ok.
