Alright, ~5 years have passed and no response has been heard so I 
think it's right about time to get the ball rolling (again).
DMD's PR #6444 implements what's proposed in bugzilla 6227 and 
that's IMO a solid first step in the right direction.
Feel free to continue the discussion here or on the GH issue.
