Ruby talk in the early days went through a fairly painful phase 
like this..... attracting trolls like flies.

Oh gawd: Remember that one guy who analysed each language by a 
long long list of somewhat odd criteria and demanded all 
deficiencies be remedied...?

Fortunately the overwhelming niceness of the community prevailed.

I do think liberal application of

attacks and/or nastiness would rapidly starve these threads of 
oxygen.
