What's the go with the GC these days?

I use Thunderbird mail, latest version, and it has random pauses that are up to 
10 seconds. It'll happen when I'm in the middle of typing, which is frustrating.

I'm not positive it is a GC pause, maybe it's something else, but the randomness 
of it suggests it is GC.
