Could D have fit Microsoft's needs?

Hm, I don't see this. A scripting language like Python does need 
to a have an extensive standard library. C++ only recently got 
basic file system support... C++ is hardly "batteries included". 
Go actually has a lot available in it's standard library, even a 
web server...
