I've not read the rest of this thread.

But in my experience, it was entirely that C++ programmers still 
need to work with their C++ codebases and need a way to hook in 
to that.

See D++ and Binderoo for different approaches to the problem 
there, but they're both still not mature enough for what would 
actually be needed for C++ programmers to start moving their 
codebases to D.
