Yeah, for sure.

My one final point would be that sometimes writing things out piecemeal 
based on logic is natural. I don't think the user should have to do 
acrobatics to fit it all in one call.

BTW, I misunderstood your original point, and thought you meant stdout 
and stderr should not be buffered at all.
