Vern,

I believe that there is mistaken perception about the ability of a 501(c)3
to generate revenue.  My father sat on the board of one that raised -
literally - millions of dollars for a stated goal of obtaining its own
building in which to manufacture several product line and to pay disabled
employees to do so.  There is nothing wrong with raising funds but we
really need some qualified accounting help.

We should stipulate that sales of T-shirts will occur even as the tables
and admission are comp'ed.  If travel is involved, expense money should be
requested (I am not packing up our gear at dawn, driving like a madman to
Dallas, Houston or San Antonio, setting up, packing out and driving home
again...if we are to provide content, there are housing, meal and travel
expenses being incurred by the members...TRG does not have the cash in our
current budget to cover those costs for long).

I just finished a 12-week Summer course load and could easily have found
101 things that needed to be done around the house this past weekend.
All-in-all, it was fun but you have a very valid point.  The next president
of this organization should take it up with the membership again.  Perhaps
it will have a better reception.
