Yeah, AC conversion means you get to use a fairly efficient  
transformer -- the way to go really; a 7805 type converter tends to  
convert the excess to _heat_... not so efficient.

I don't think there _is_ a good solution unless you get fancy.  I  
probably have a 5v wall wart somewhere...
