[Robotgroup] Starting robotics, but where?

Just my $0.02, but I'd go with Choice #4 (the "Toddler" from Parallax).
Parallax's support is legendary, their documentation is outstanding and
the kit itself is robust (not a bunch of plastic Legos that fall apart
if you drop or bump  your bot).

Also, you program it in a command-line style language (not a graphical
flow-chart system) so you can learn about programming while seeing
concrete results of your efforts.
