While you guys are painting these things in the current political context, you are missing the bigger picture. These little guys are just the first step for the machines to enslave humans and take over the Earth. 

I wonder if 8 bit robots will have to fight for enfranchisement. And could they win if they had to?

I'm with Don.  I'm looking forward to the Real ID Act of 2008 to take 
effect.  Then we can just have these things shoot anyone without an RFID 
identification automatically.  What a great world it will be.  Imagine 
all the people, living in harmony!  You may say I'm a dreamer....
