According to my research micromachined angular rate sensors (aka, gyro
on a chip) such as the QRS-11 have been installed in airplanes and
missles for some time now. It is also small and light. I wonder about
the price.

According to 9/11 conspiracy films I have seen, remotely controlling
planes is not a new thing. Remote takeoffs and landings have been
possible for decades.
