It has a uv face map feature that does basically what you are asking.

Subject: [Robotgroup] 3d cad program needed

Looking for a free cad program that is easy to enter points and
manipulate faces and objects.
The most important feature is to be able to create a 3d faceted
sculpture and then do a graph paper like print out of all the polygons
that make up the object so that when scaled and cut out of
metal/wood/cardboard panels they fit together to form the object. I am
not sure what the term is for this polygon pattern view is so don't know
what to search for.
