Eric has one, I think from geeks.com (was $35)
Its output is USB though so the only options are to
crack it open and find a way to tap the gps chip
connection to the usb serial chip or else use a $35
Vinculum VDIP1 host module and try to figure out the
protocol. This is possible but would take some
experimentation and may not be easy. Also that puts
you back in the $range of the parallax module. As a
side benefit, the VDIP1 can accomodate a second usb
port interface and you can easily attach a thumb drive
which is a nice feature for data logging.
Mouser sells modules in the $30-$60 range with SPI
interfaces. I have never looked into what it takes to
configure one or if you can just power it up and the
chipset automatically spits out serial data.
