Eric & I went to visit Meredith and Carolyn at the secret laboratory of
Hawgfly productions:

Where we helped Meredith make a baby! :) We even took pictures! :D But
seriously, these folks were commissioned to make an animatronic prop
baby that could wave its arms for a television series. Though they had
gobs of experience in casting, molding, painting, makeup etc, they had
no practical experience in animatronics. They already had a prop rubber
"baby" to modify so all they needed was the electronics and the advice.

So, we all piled in the car and headed over to Hobbytown where they
bought a starter RC kit consisting of a Futaba 4 channel radio
transmitter, a receiver, batteries, charger and four servos (Futaba
S3004's) all for $119. I also suggested that they buy some hi torque
servos to use to move the arms as I expected that the rubber arms might
bind a bit with the rubber body of the prop baby. Add in two HITEC
servos to the bag and away we went.

Eric and I spent the afternoon coaching (but not actually DOING
anything) so they could get a good feel for how to work with the
components. Anyway, the result was a fully working animatronic prop
baby! Pictures of the progress are here:
