Typically auto download is done using the DTR pin through the extra input on the max232 to a transistor placed across the reset button. If the loader you are using is written to send a DTR pulse before initiating the transfer then you can get a reset without having to button press each time. I dont know if any pic loaders do that or if you can get the source and make it so. I have only seen it on other processors like the propeller propStick.

Are you using MPLAB under linux? I heard there are some wine tool steps to accomplish this but I havent tried everything yet.

Subject: [Robotgroup] PIC bootloader from Microchip

Does anybody have any experience with the above?

I really like having it, but I am wondering if anybody
has written a way to jump in and out of the bootloader
without hitting any buttons.

Basically I want my software to reset the board upon
writing the firmware.

Also, I want to be able to jump to the bootloader from
the firmware without having to press the prog and reset
switches.

FYI, I am using the UBW from sparkfun and fsusb under
Linux to do this.

Thanks,

Alberto
