All,
I would like to see The Robot Group Inc. move forward on
new projects. Having a shop, meeting place and staging area
are most helpful.
I really do not want to discourage those seeking to establish
such a facility.
Here are some positive suggestions on how to make it happen.
Check with other "art" groups, and 501(c)3 groups that will
talk to you and see how they do it (if the have been able to pull
it off.)
In particular, talk to people in the "burner" community that TomD
has mentioned.
Talk to people in the Austin EFF. Without their, help much of what
was brought to life by RG, would not have been possible. The contribution
these folks have made in the past, and continue to make, are immeasurable.
Immeasurable, but huge, if you look into how things happen.
Learn all you can about how all this works.
It is a useful to understand that most of what The Robot Group has done
and will do, is outside the experience of most people on the planet.
"We" are "special", "different", "crazy" by most peoples standards.
When you live "outside the box" ordinary folks and organizations find
it hard to understand how to deal with you. Many simply the interface
by forcing money out of you, in one way or another - or dimply ignoring
you.
A collection of "fringe dwellers" need to be true to their definition of
success,
while doing a responsible job of dealing with the rest of the people on
the planet.
Again, check into the burner community and Austin EFF. There is magic
there.
See how they make it happen.
One hint - these groups are made up of people. Focus on the people
most often
associated with the magic, and sharpen your focus there.
Cheers,
-Glenn
