Mark,
Many thanks for the info.
The Tacoma 4 door with fiberglass camper shell is what I have in mind.
Antennas deployed on the roof, will come up through a "James Bond"
opening on the top of the camper, and supply their own ground plane
as needed.
When the visible antennas are retracted, microwave radios will
work through the fiberglass shell and windows.
I am giving a talk Tuesday April 3, for the local radio club meeting
held at the ARL auditorium at 10,000 Burnet Rd. The talk will cover
mesh networking running under FCC Part97, amateur radio rules.
The business meeting starts as 7:00 PM, the presentation is scheduled
to start at about 7:30 PM. You do have to sign in and out, but any of
you can
attend the meeting.
The mesh nodes we have developed are slicker than snot,
on a Teflon doorknob, and would be fantastic wireless network
links for mobile robots. This is the wireless network link to
the fixed/distributed Robot Brain to mobile platforms, that I spoke
of long ago. ARES-MESH can be smoothly and legally
couple to Part-15 consumer devices, that require no user license.
There are many details, of course.
With FCC Part-15 consumer devices, the manufacturer gets a DEVICE design l
licensed by the FCC, and no user license is required. Without a proper
license, it is illegal to alter these devices.
With FCC Part-97 rules, the operator is granted a station license, and an
operator license. Within broad limits, a ham can build and put on the air,
their own custom radio equipment. Design your own gear, don't cause
others problems, and the sky is NOT the limit.
I have limited energy these days, and have focused most of my free
time on this project.
Cheers,
-Glenn
