Paul might be on to something here.  Give it a try with the hot 
water, powdered dishwasher detergent, and a scrub brush.  That 
dishwasher detergent - as opposed to the liquid detergent for washing 
dishes in the sink - is pretty alkaline and corrosive and may very 
well remove your conductive residue.  If you don't normally use 
powdered dishwasher detergent, remind me and I'll try to bring a 
sample to Thursday's meeting.
