[Robotgroup] ITT ROBOT COMPETITION SUCCESS!

Hey All,

Just to let you know, we smashed San Antonio. I mean we littarly kick their
butts. The final score was 175 to 56. The best part was when their jaw
dropped when we walked in with our Robot. If we were judging by weight
class, it would be like a Sumo vs a Feather weight. They may have had speed
on their size, but we had power and much higher throughput. There were lots
of video taken and I'll have to get a raw copy and edited version over to
you guys.

Talks haven't begun on the next competition. But I'd like to see the Robot
Group bring a challenger to the arena for a battle royal. We'll go easy on
ya ;-)

Anyways, just thought I'd pass that along, see you guys soon.

Failing that, can anyone provide me with the specs (off the top of
your head) for the power supply required for the Parallax board ?

Hi everyone,

Sorry we missed the meeting last night...kids puttered out after their
dental appointments this afternoon. Hope all is well and everyone is on
track for Maker Faire!
We are not exhibiting anything (this year), but plan on being out there
for the weekend. Do we have a group coupon code for those of us that
are part of RG but not registered exhibitors so we can purchase discount
tickets? We don't mind buying tickets, just wondered if as a RG member
we got a bit of a break on them.
Thanks and hope to see you all next week!

BS2 needs 6-9VDC at >=300ma (guessing at current based on a servo, BS2 and a
bunch of LEDs.)

I've got a 7.5VDC @ 1.7A here in my hand. I'll throw it in my car. I will
need it back though.

WARNING -- Be absolutely certain whether the center conductor for the board
is (+) or (-) or you'll destroy the board if not properly protected (just
ask Gray about that).

The website does NOT specify whether they're center (+) or (-). I looked
on a number of the board pages and all the power supply pages and couldn't
see it specified.

Just thought I'd throw in my observations.

I've already used this particular power supply with both a BS2 and a
Propeller, FWIW.

FWIW, the first BS2 schematic I looked at shows barrel negative, center
positive.

To put minds at ease, I've already used this power supply with a BS2 board
of education and a propeller demo board. It's center positive which agrees
with the Board of Education schematic here:

I originally provided the power supply used with the flower. It was a
spare Altex Lansing computer speakers power supply (off-white color,
wall wart style).

IIRC, It was 12v at 800ma, 2.1mm coaxial power connector, center
positive. The board it connects to is one I built. It is a Basic Stamp
carrier board and I added a 7805 regulator with a heat sink to dissipate
the different tween 12v and 5v.

The unit should run fine on anything from 6v to 15v DC center positive
power supply. I have similar units I will bring along tonight so the
flower can be a robot and not art. ;)
