PERSONAL ROBOTIC TOOLS AND FABRICATION MEETING
Date: Thursday, October 18
Time: 10am-1pm followed by lunch
Location: Travis County Expo Center, Austin, TX
OVERVIEW
We see a broad emerging market for Personal Robotic Tools and
Fabrication Machines that extends to a new market of individuals beyond the
the traditional industrial customers for robotic tools. Make Magazine
along with ShopBot invite you to
join us for a half-day invitational summit as part of the Austin Maker
Faire to explore various
aspects of this new market. This will be an informal meeting where the
participants
can direct the agenda. We expect the focus to be on sharing information
about
the development and use of affordable and accessible,
computer-controlled tools.
Our goal is bring together people who represent a variety of
perspectives in this emerging market
and see if we can identify a common interests that can be pursued to
promote this consumer
market in the media and direct to users. We will have people involved in
the hardware side (CNC milling machines, 3D printers, laser
cutters, etc) as well as software in addition to maker who use robotic
tools.
Some of the issues we might discuss:
o raising the visibility of consumer-oriented robotic tools as a
separate market segment
o interoperability among different tools and software packages helping
users conceptualize different digital fabrication strategies
and their relative merits (e.g. additive and subtractive)
o identifying common usability issues and barriers
o exploring the relationship between industrial robotics and consumer?
o exploring the potential for organizing a broader conference
This half-day gathering is scheduled for October 18, 2007
in Austin, TX, which is the Thursday before the Maker Faire at the
Travis County
Expo Center.
If you would like to attend, please confirm your participation by
