Right, that's "centronics printer" compatible though and again probably only 
supports printing. However, it might be worth a shot to see if any of the 
centronics compatible cable do support I/O writing, but I really doubt it --  
this is what the problem is more or less, the driver insults you from 
accessing the port I/O. But, if the cable validates itself as a real 
parallel centronics port LPTx then that might work.

I saw a couple of USB-Centronics cables that claimed to be 'register 
compatable'
the last time I was Frys. They were at the end of the USB/Firewire cable 
aisle.
