[Robotgroup] Gigafast, dual networks, and thin clients

Don,
I marble mouthed what I meant to say about
Gigafast and forgot to fix it. Assuming Gigafast
means 10/100/1000 you might consider a dual
network. One using that gigabit router which is
what I suspect your Gigafast is, and another for
Internet connectivity with some switch of mine.
Then you can have a very secure, fast local
lan totally separate from your Internet connectivity.
If you want to have a fileserver, the dual lan setup
would be the cat's meow. You may need second
NIC capability on some of your boxes to fully
implement.
This kind of dual lan is terrific for any boxes
you have which support PXE (network boot)
which work really well on the faster lan. The
Edubuntu linux supports this kind of configuration
out of the box for schools with lots of kids and
thin budgets. I think they call the software LTSP.
You can have one powerful computer and lots
of super cheap thin clients.
