I booted up my Apple II about 4 years ago and it all worked just fine. It
was probably 1978 or 1979 model and therefore around 22 years old (if I am
remembering all the dates right).  I was more worried that the floppy drives
would loose their data but every game I tested worked fine.

Its cool that these things are still around. I once
read that EEPROM from that time were guaranteed for 10
years and not expected to live much past 25. Is that
true? If so, then many species of collectors hardware
may be near extinction. Although I don't think the
eeproms were code-locked so they could potentially be
refreshed if that alone was the main failure point.

When I was a teenager, my parents supported my
computer addiction, but made a point never to buy a
pure gaming console. It was ok to play games, but he
wanted me to have a choice for learning, it had to
have a keyboard and at least one programming language.

I really don't remember what happened to my Sinclare
1000.
