[Robotgroup] Dorkbot last night

I have been to a couple of them, and keep hoping for a little more
generalization in what people show off project wise. I like to go though, of
course, a little better planning and management. For example, engineers and
artists make terriable public speakers, since many tend to mumble, look
down, don't project their voice, but to add insult to injury, no one thought
of any kind of hand mic to a local amp, so it was impossible to hear the
entire presentation in the gong room, things like that. I think that
everyone attending being a nerd has a high level of tolerance for these kind
of abnormalities, I do as well, but still its nice when someone thinks about
little things like being able to hear the presenters that don't have a
booming MC voice :)

I see you're new to Dorkbot. Yeah it was a lot more musical than usual but
then i liked it as i want to do musical projects. Dorkbot has always been
more of a show and tell and, like the robot group itself can be a bit
nebulous. If you come there expecting it to be "electornic" or mechanical
or musical or "more robotic" then you are probably up for dissapointment.
If you come to have fun and see what others have done and get inspired to do
more of your own stuff, whatever that may be you will enjoy yourself.
Actually some of the better projects tend to happen as sort of SIGs when
members split out into a project or SIG and do something marvelous on their
own. I can see that you are a little more "professional" like the guy with
the Thummer but we can all learn from you and we (or at least I) admire your
forward thinking and get-it-done attitude. maybe some will rub off on the
rest of us. I'm hoping some of the folks we met last night will come and
join us and many of us also enjoy cross polinating with the Children's
Museum as we have common roots.

Don
