Very Cool !
Thanks for the pictures. What was your final transducer design? It looks
like you modified the Parallax Ping))) sensor somewhat but it is hard to
tell from the photos.

Subject: [Robotgroup] Sonar Station Installation COMPLETE!!! :D
Yes, amazingly enough, the Sonar Station is up and running at the Austin
Children's Museum as of 10:20am this morning!

Ed and Paul came over at 7:00am and we loaded up all the gear and headed
out for what we thought would be a short 20 minute drive to the Museum.
We existed MOPAC on the 1st/5th st exit, HOWEVER due to the 10k race (or
whatever it was) they had all of the E/W streets blocked downtown! We
ended up being directed from barricade to barricade by police officers
who eventually had us down to Congress and Oltorf!
After looping around we finally found some city workers who were willing
to let us move a barricade and drive up to the front of the museum
around 8:45am!
We unloaded and started the setup. You can see the progress in the
picture gallery above. It went together pretty much without a hitch. We
got a chance to explain operational theory to Chris Brown (the museum's
tech) and hung out till the Museum opened it's doors at 10:00am. There
are LOTS of things to do in there and we needed to get out of downtown,
so not many kids had "filtered" back to its location by the time we had
to leave. I did get a picture of our "first customer" using the machine
though. :)
A general observation is thats it appears to be a bit difficult to
figure out how to use the Sonar Station or what to do to operate it. I
imagine that will be reduced once we get our signs done. Chris offered
to do the signs for me, so we should have some on there soon.
I want to send a special THANK YOU to Ed and Paul for really helping
push this thing over the last few days. Couldn't have done it without
you!! :)
Also, thanks to David Dorkbot Nunez for giving me a nice guided tour of
his very cool resonant gong display! :)
Anyway, if you get a chance, stop by and check out the newest exhibit at
the Austin the Children's Museum!
:)
