I'd previously sent this but wanted y'all to know that there will be
a price reduction, if you act quickly.
m.e.t.s.
Some of y'all already know about this but I'd thought that I'd open
it up to everyone.
On Saturday, 23 August 2008, Austin Outrigger Canoe Club is holding
its annual Bill Krutzer Ironman Race. Normally, we hold this race on
Lady Bird Lake and barbecue burgers, dogs, and chicken at Festival
Beach; however, this year we are moving the race upriver to Lake
Austin.
Four Texas outrigger canoe clubs will be participating in this
event. We expect to have six or seven outrigger kanus racing for
glory in this kick-off of our long-distance season. The racing is
usually very close.
To celebrate the event, we have contracted with Lake Austin
Riverboats to have their river cruiser, the Commodore Pup, accompany
the race from start to finish.
This is a double-decker riverboat with climate-controlled cabin,
outdoor upper deck, ample seating for everyone, indoor restrooms, and
a catered fajita (beef or chicken) lunch. Those choosing to be
seated in the interior will have an eyeball-to-eyeball view of the
paddlers during the race.
Boarding for the race will proceed from 0900 hrs through the start of
the race at 0930 hrs (near the Hula Hut on Lake Austin Boulevard,
just upriver of Tom Miller Dam). We have the boat until 1400 hrs.
This is a BYOB event. There will be some light snacks and soft
drinks served during the cruise (before lunch).
The cost for AOCC members (racers included) and families is $20 per
person (the club is subsidizing the remaining $25 per person). The
cost for non-members is $45 per head. That's 4-1/2 hours on
cruising, a catered lunch, and the opportunity to see outrigger
canoeing up-close-and-personal.
Just so that you know, the Hawai'ians were absolutely amazed at just
how well the Texas All-Star teams have performed in some premier
events out in the islands.
This should be an fun event for observes and racers alike. Some of
y'all have been threatening to come out to watch a race for several
years. Maybe this will be your chance! If you are interested, let
Denise or me know.
The price is reduced to $30 / person IF and ONLY IF you commit before
tomorrow night. If you show up at the dock on Saturday morning and
you have not made the prior commitment, the price will be the full
$45 per person.

All the best....
Mike
