Just dropping in my $0.02 here, but it could be that what you faced
wasn't a case of logic vs. image, but rather a lack of proper marketing
on your end..? :) To explain:

I think you may have done yourself a disservice by explaining too deeply
how you planned to solve the problem. It might have been more acceptable
to simply tell them you had a solution, and leave it at that. If
pressed, you could have referred to the tractor part by its *purpose* in
your design such as "I plan to use a high torque trans-axel
reciprocating converter". :)

Sometimes it might be best to shield the less open-minded from the
things that would cause their attention to mis-focus. Consider for a
moment how they would react to this line item on an invoice:

1) Articulated vacuum-activated liquid transport device (safety yellow)

Probably wouldn't cause them to pause for even a second. However, the
same device described thusly:

1) Bendy Straw (banana yellow)

Might result in a full-halt and audit of the project, yes? :)

Ultimately, for any design to be truly successful, it needs to be put
into practice. To do that, you have to help the idea get past the
"pointy haired bosses". Only telling them what they *need* to know,
while phrasing it in a form that they expect to see (and are comfortable
approving) can go a long way in this regard.

Again, Just my $0.02... ;)
