Totally dig the idea. Could we get a few stamp SIGS
under way first so we can have a few more competitors
;o)?

I think what you would want for practicality sake are
goals that might be useful for a large scale version
of that robot:

* Make way through maze (or atleast several turns
since I'm not sure how much data you can save using a
basic stamp or homework board).

* Move object Z to x,y

* Avoid object W

or even something simple such as micro battle
bots/robot wars. I always wanted to see an autonomous
robot wars battle.. of course I wanted to build one
with a c64 just to see it kill some $4000 machine with
a 1Mhz processor.

Not being a knowledgable robot maker yet I really
don't know how feasable tasks are with a basic stamp
or pic or what. I know the theories on needing to
interface with a sonar sensor or IR sensor, etc but it
could be that detecting dimensions of an object or a
color of an object, etc is too much for realtime
reaction.

The other thing you could do (similar to Clendon's
suggestion) is start with a basic robot or all the
parts laid out in front of you and the builder can
choose what devices to use from the more knowledgable
judges who laid out the parts they know could do the
tasks correctly.
