Note: The list "Austin-Robotics-Network" organizes the kids' and teen
competitions. If they are going to have an adult one (they had Sumo
already this year I think) maybe we could join in / help?

"Robofest" is coming up - one contest is problem-solving like the
First LEGO League but the "Exhibition" can be anything that involves
a robot (something artistic or original). ("The robotics exhibition
is a great way for students to show off their imagination and
creativity. Each team has complete freedom to create autonomous
robotics projects such as robot pets, robot artists, dancing robots,
storytelling with robots, robots for scientific experiments, and
practical robotics applications. Teams are composed of one to seven
members. In general, two students are recommended per robot. Computer
controlled robots may be of any size and can use any material as long
as it is safe for team members as well as spectators."

Here's the email about meetings if you know any kids that are
interested:

The info meeting for the Austin Robofest tournament is on Saturday,
Jan. 19th from 3:15-4:15 at the Howson library at 2500 Exposition. At
the meeting, I'll explain how the tournament works, describe the two
different categories that you can enter at the Austin tournament, and
show pictures from past competitions. From 4:15-5:00, I'll answer
questions and talk to people interested in volunteering.

The Austin Robofest tournament is April 12th at Hill Country Middle
School at 1300 Walsh Tarlton Rd. The tournament is open to students
in 5th thru 12th grade, and teams can compete in either Game
Competition or Exhibition. Top teams are eligible to compete in the
World Championship at Lawrence Tech University in Southfield, MI on
April 26th. Visit www.robofest.net to learn more.

For updates for the Austin tournament join the Austin Robotics
Network at Austin-Robotics-Network-subscribe at yahoogroups.com . Please
include a note telling me how your heard of the group so I'll approve
it.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks
