Hi all,
       I am very pleased and gratified with all the proposals for solving the ring detection problem. It's always interesting to see what clever, creative minds we have, and to see them in action. For my .02, I liked Tom's suggestion for using a master/ slave system. I think there should be a backup system for whatever main system is chosen, if possible, for a couple of reasons. Since my name begins with "A", and I am on the board of directors, should there be any mishap, I will be at the top of some lawyers hit list. Secondly, the PR would be a disaster for the robotgroup. If R2 manages to run over some 4 year old's foot or body, I imagine many cell phone cameras will promptly record the event, and it isn't beyond the realm of possibility that a video would make it to Youtube, exclaiming "R2D2 runs amok - attacks child!" Any future proposals for the city would be scrutinized  much more meticulously then they do now. No one wants anything but this to be an enjoyable event.
