Never iron the tape directly, put the tape sandwiched between some 
cotton or other non sticky fabric. A steamer will work better, but keep 
the tape out of the direct heat!

You could also steam the tape or warm it up, then put the tape 
sandwiched in a thick heavy book and leave it for a day or two and see 
if that helps.
