The best way to do SXSW these days is hit the free events.
Even the parties, although you have to navigate the RSVP somehow.

The wristband is mostly a bad joke on the locals, the real action is
with the badges for the big shows. Sure you can see a lot of nobodies
with a wrist bad, but paying $100 + for the 'privilege'.. dont think so.
There are a lot of shows in local music stores and other places that dont
require any SXSW ID. Then there's the time honored method of 'gate crashing'
try to blend in with a mob wearing a plastic band thats close to the same color
maybe you get , maybe not. All they can do is turn you away.
All part of the chaos, if you're game. Search around for 'free sxsw party'
on google, even if you get last years, the same places have parties every year.
