[Robotgroup] Embedded Gnu/Linux Hardware Recommendation?

Hey guys, sorry I know I'm replying to an old thread. Here are some
things I found out:

http://www.gumstix.com/ are pretty neat modular boards that run linux.

Because linux is not a real time OS, one should anticipate scheduling
latency on the order of 10ms, so one should not try to control devices
directly from software running in linux that requires better
performance than that.

If you need higher precision timing, there are socalled realtime
OS'es. Many of these are hacked versions of linux, and can get
improve your latency by a factor of 100.

However, i feel like in many cases, if you need the timing to be that
good, you should be running that process on an external device that
isn't running an operating system.
