One final reminder and a request for RSVPs.
Where:
Enchanted Rock State Park (roughly 20 miles north of
Fredericksburg, TX on RR 965)
The total distance to Enchanted Rock is roughly 100 miles
... 80 miles to Fredericksburg on US 290, then another 20
miles north on RR 965.
When:
Sunday morning
The park opens at 0800 hrs and remember that it IS the
Memorial Day weekend.
The intention is to leave Austin 0600 hrs in as few
vehicles as possible.
Cost:
$6 entry fee per person charged at the ranger station.
After the hike, we will be meeting for lunch at one of the
eating establishments back in Fredericksburg. Cost = ?
The Plan (as I know it):
Denise and I are driving PY out to the park. Assuming that Brooks is
still interested in this affair, I will drop PY and Denise off and
head up to Kingsland to snag Brooks at 0800 hrs - 0830 hrs.
If the park is closed upon our return from Kingsland ... probably
1000 hrs? ... I will drop Brooks off at the gate and find a hole to
crawl into for a few hours.
If anyone is planning to be in that area anyway, feel free to take
this opportunity to visit beautiful downtown Kingsland. ;-)
After the hike and, again, depending upon Brooks' plan, I can
a) send Denise and PY into Fredericksburg with another vehicle and
take Brooks back to Kingsland.
b) participate in the lunch with the crew and then take Brooks back
to Kingsland.
c) God only knows....
Carpooling:
Is anyone else seriously considering making the trip? If so, speak
up now.
Derek is interesting in the tip and carpooling. We may be able to
get Derek into Justin's (Austin Outrigger Canoe Club) truck.
What to bring:
Personal water supply (Camelback might be a great idea).
Something to snack upon, especially, if you suffer blood sugar
issues.
Top cover for those bald spots, gentlemen.
Sunscreen with UVA and UVB protection).
A decent pair of footwear for rock climbing. I prefer a pair of
cross-training shoes with not-much-wear on the soles over a pair of
hiking boots.

All the best....
Mike
